Impact report 2024FINAL - Flipbook - Page 2
BETTER FOR OUR PLANET
To reduce our environmental impact
Energy use
Our business turnover increased by 20% and, as our operations have increased, so
has our use of electricity and gas. While this is something that we will need to look at
next year, we were pleased that overall, the emissions from our electricity decreased.
This follows the move in November 2024 to a new electricity provider which provides
electricity from 100% renewable sources, such as wind or solar.
lorry emissions
In March, we purchased our 昀椀rst lorry - a new eco Volvo lorry which is 5% more ef昀椀cient
than the most ef昀椀cient lorries in our 昀氀eet. In 2025 we hope to join a trial for a Volvo
electric lorry.
car emissions
We continued to transition more of our company car 昀氀eet to electric or hybrid vehicles.
In 2024, just 7% of miles driven in our company cars were from petrol or diesel cars,
down from 13% in 2023. This enabled us to increase the number of miles travelled per
CO2 emissions by 22%.
Food Waste
2024 was our 昀椀rst full year of recycling food waste – we collected 840kg in total during
the year. For the second half of the year, there was a year-on-year increase of 30% in
terms of food recycled.
Recycling
The total amount of waste we created increased by 8% to 59,917kg. However, we saw a
18% increase in tonnage handled by our warehouse, so our waste ef昀椀ciency improved
by 9%. The percentage of waste we were able to recycle was 51%.
Paper use
We saw another increase in the amount of paper we used this year, by 9%. As our
business grows, so does our use of paper, particularly in the warehouse. We continue
to identify areas of the business which can be digitised, but our reliance on paper is
proving a stubborn 昀椀gure to bring down.
